Loud Guitars...

I love music. I can't live without it.

As a matter of fact, I'd rather have music on all day than television. As much as I love movies, there's something about music that hits my soul, and since MTV no longer plays cool music videos, the television is turned off more than the computer. These days, I'm addicted to Spotify- on my cell phone and PC. I'm also a huge fan of the iHeart Radio show, Sixx Sense (save that opinion for another blog!).

As much as I love music, I do not dance, at least, not anymore. Sometimes I miss it- but obviously not enough. I run, I practice yoga, that's enough.

But more importantly, I'm shocked I'm not investing time learning how to play the guitar. It is seriously my favorite instrument, and if you ask me what my favorite genre of music is, the real answer is rock and roll and country. Why? Because, it involves a lot of guitar. Heavy guitar, bass and acoustic guitar.

Confession, when I hear a song with strong guitar I tend to... move my hand. Kind of like a guitarist. I've hit my steering wheel so many times. Other times, my hand hits my thigh. Have I denied myself the right to be a talented guitarist?

I've attempted to learn before, and failed. How do I have more patience to learn to run six miles, but, no patience to learn to play my favorite songs on a guitar?

When I was a teenager, I wrote to Santa Clause every Christmas asking for a guitar. I never got one. Not even a cheap used one from Kmart or Bradlees, or Ames. Or Toy's R Us. We didn't have Walmarts or Targets when I was a teen, I digress.

So, a goal I have set to reach before my fortieth birthday is to try to learn to play the guitar. If only to get some rhythm in my life. If only to understand some chords, and strumming.

I've attempted to learn for the past week -I've held the strings with the fingertips,  and strummed the strings.  I have a few months left. How far will I get? What songs will I learn- is it even realistic to expect to learn a song?

In running, you can say you'll run six miles and you reach six miles. You just need to say it, then get out there and run further each day. And everyday- you get closer to six miles. You learn one, two and then three miles out, then you learn four, and five and then six.

So should I apply my running mentality to guitar playing? Because when you learn to run, you have to get through the aches and pains in your feet, ankles, shins, hips and back... And any other muscle. But, when you play the guitar, you will have short, ugly finger nails and calloused fingertips. I'm cool with that.

If you tell me you want to run six miles before February, I know I can help you reach that goal.

If I tell you that I want to learn how to play, say, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison," or- "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd,  before February, how close do you think I'll get?

LA Guns, Laconia, NH

Every June, motorcycles flock to Laconia, New Hampshire for the annual bike rally. Mostly dominated by Harley Davidson and motorcycle clubs, the event still attracts tourists from all over America and Canada.  Attendance these past few years at the event have been declining, especially from the local residents. I had no intentions to attend until I found about Laconia Fest. I was excited to hear that there would be a nine-day music festival that hosted some of the hottest rock bands to perform. I don't believe in criticizing anyone, or any company. Especially when I see they are struggling. I also do not know the behind the scene details, so I can't tell you what happened, but I can tell you what I saw and experienced. Unfortunately, Thursday, June 16th's event started late. There were a lot of bands scheduled to play throughout the day, and  there was supposedly two stages; so that when one band played, the other band could prepare on the other stage. For s...

Sex, Booze, Rock and Roll: My Novel Idea

In 2014, I had a life-changing surgery. Since then, my life literally changed. Because I was forced to sit still for two-months to recover, I fell into the writers zone and I've completed the first draft of my 55,000-word novel.  Unlike most writers these days, I've yet to share my story online. I've made an effort to keep the plot and characters a secret. I haven't started a twitter page for the story- and I probably won't. Actually, I lied. I did post the first eleven chapters of the very first draft of my story on a website for authors. I took it down, and it's plot has changed since last year. There's no secret that I have a passion for fitness, and music, and sometimes racing. So, it's no surprise that my fiction stories are heavily centered around the three. If there's anything I'm willing to share about the story is that it's filled with sex, booze, and rock'n roll. There are racers and their fast cars. Rock stars with thei...

I do Love

It's easy to write the "I hate you" list, but, there is  love and happiness in my heart too. There's a lot of cruelty in our world today. And  with all of the violence that's happened in 2016, I think it's important to remember what we love about life while we are alive. I read a quote the other day and I remember three words distinctly, "Value Your Life,"  That speaks volumes.  Perhaps this spring, I should focus more on the things and people that bring joy to my life. I love to feel happy, and I love to laugh. I resolve to bring more happiness to my life this year! Since I turned 40, I've decided to force myself to share the 40 things I love, and make me happy. 1. My niece, l.and everything she and I do together 2. Writing stories 3. Warm weather & sunshine 4. The ocean, the beach, hot sand on my feet 5. Running on the beach, even on cold days. 6. Visiting Los Angeles cities, especially Hollywood & Runyon Canyon 7. R...
